One special young woman with the weight of protecting and saving the world on her shoulders, with her four mates by her side. I think maybe their story was too short. I couldn't believe how fast I fell for these characters. Instead, she forced a smile and sprang to her feet.
I 100% agree with Kite one of the H's they sound more like a Cult not a Church and a pretty shitty thing to require these kids to follow your faith or they are kicked back on to the street. Because I never give up. Because I mean why did some topics revolving around human emotions and actions and shit have to be explained so thoroughly. I always believe it´s not about the particulars or how original you are but about how you deliver it and this was. I loved the action, drama and danger in the story and how it was written so that you wondered if this was the end only for something to happen and them to live to fight and love another day. Wren has been sick since the moment she was born.
Now that they've all got a sense of their relationship, this book was able to focus on other things more, like her magic and learning how to better deal with it, and her work, like the new case that just seems too weird but so up her alley. As someone who loves sweet men with healthy communication and relationship skills, I loved this book!!! I was also pleased that Wren has a slower transformation than usually seems to happen. The characters are likeable and the lead character i loved. Because I never give up. I skimmed about 20% of the book, including sex.
That being said the love, forgiveness, holding onto ones morals under duress themes were so heavy handed at points it sometimes made the story feel unbalanced. Kite, our soulful bear, is kind and seems to have a good innate understanding of what drives Wren, his values appearing to be closest to hers as we enter into this mayhem. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Besides that she has some weird disease which makes her weak and she may soon die from.
